Richards Bay can finally breathe a sigh of relief! The KwaZulu-Natal outfit secured their place in the DStv Premiership for the upcoming season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Baroka FC in the final match of the promotion/relegation playoffs on Wednesday afternoon.
Their journey to retain top-flight status wasn’t always smooth sailing. For much of the regular season, Bay found themselves precariously close to the relegation zone, often occupying the dreaded 15th position. But they showed true fighting spirit in the playoffs, defeating the University of Pretoria 1-0 before their dominant display against Baroka.
Sweet Victory, Richards Bay Secured Place in the PSL
This victory marks a momentous occasion for the club, their fans, and the entire Bay community. The “Natal Rich Boyz,” as they’re affectionately known, will be looking to establish themselves firmly in the PSL after this hard-fought battle. Their success story is a testament to perseverance and determination. Coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi deserves immense credit for rallying the team during a challenging season.
The Natal Rich Boyz offence fired on all cylinders in their victory. Somila Ntsundwana bagged a crucial two goals, while Sanele Barns and Lwandile Mabuya each added their names to the scoresheet to seal the win for their team. While they celebrated, Baroka’s dream of promotion was shattered.
They entered the final match needing a specific result – a 2-0 victory – to leapfrog Bay on goal difference. However, their hopes were dashed by the heavy defeat. This loss placed them last in the three-team playoff mini-league, with the University of Pretoria finishing as runners-up to Bay.

The KwaZulu-Natal side will be eager to prove their mettle against South Africa’s top footballing talents.
