About the Orthopaedics Medical Specialist Role
As an Orthopaedics Medical Specialist at Grade 1, you will be at the forefront of providing exceptional medical care within the orthopaedic department. Requirements:
- Qualification: A qualification that enables registration with the HPCSA as a specialist in Orthopaedics.
- Registration: Must be registered or eligible for registration as an Orthopaedic Specialist (FC Ortho (SA) and M.Med) with the HPCSA.
- Current HPCSA Registration: Must have current registration with the HPCSA.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of Paediatric Orthopaedic.
- General knowledge of Paediatric Orthopaedic Trauma.
- Knowledge of adult arthroplasty will be considered an advantage.
- Commuted Overtime: Mandatory participation in commuted overtime
Key Responsibilities
Duties of the Orthopaedics Medical Specialist include:
- Clinical Management: Serve as a Consultant for the clinical management of Orthopaedic patients within the Helen Joseph/Rahima Moosa Hospital Complex.
- Ward Rounds: Conduct post-intake and follow-up ward rounds, supervising registrars, medical officers, and interns rotating in Orthopaedics.
- Outpatient Care: Manage patients attending the Outpatient Department Clinic.
- Academic Responsibilities: Participate in the academic duties associated with the Wits Department of Orthopaedics.
- Teaching and Training: Engage in the teaching, training, and supervision of undergraduate medical and postgraduate students (registrars) specifically in the discipline of Orthopaedic Research.
- Outreach Programs: Conduct outreach to facilities/services in the catchment areas to extend Orthopaedic care and expertise.
- Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Committee Participation: Take part in management committees at Helen Joseph Hospital to contribute to the overall governance and improvement of hospital services.
