Eligibility Criteria for SANBI Graduate Job Opportunities

The Groen Sebenza Phase II Programme is an inclusive initiative aimed at empowering South Africa’s youth by bridging the gap between academic achievements and meaningful employment in the environmental and biodiversity sector. To ensure you are eligible for this transformative opportunity, here are the key requirements:

  • South African Citizenship: This programme is exclusively open to South African citizens, fostering local talent and contributing to the nation’s biodiversity conservation efforts.
  • Age and Employment Status: Applicants must be young, unemployed, or underemployed professionals aged between 18 and 35 years. The term underemployed refers to those who are working in a field different from what they studied, particularly outside the listed environmental and biodiversity sectors.
  • Innovation and Creativity: SANBI is looking for individuals who are innovative, dynamic, and creative, with a keen interest in making a difference in environmental conservation and biodiversity management.
  • Commitment to Career Development: Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to their professional development within the environmental and biodiversity sector. This programme is tailored to individuals eager to enhance their skills and contribute significantly to conservation efforts.
  • Educational Qualifications: Applicants must possess the specific qualifications mentioned in the available positions, ranging from Diplomas to Doctoral levels in relevant fields.
  • Inclusivity: People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Groen Sebenza Phase II Programme is committed to promoting diversity and equal opportunities for all.

How to Apply to the Groen Sebenza Phase II Internships

Embarking on your application journey to the Groen Sebenza Phase II Programme is a significant step towards a fulfilling career in environmental and biodiversity management. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure your application is complete and stands out.

Step 1: Prepare Your Documentation

Before you begin the application process, make sure you have the following documents prepared and updated. These documents are essential to showcase your qualifications, experiences, and suitability for the internship:

  • Letter of Interest: Draft a one-page letter explaining why you are the ideal candidate for the internship. This letter should highlight your passion for environmental conservation, relevant experiences, and how you envision contributing to the programme and the broader environmental sector. Remember, this is not a reference letter but a personal statement of interest.
  • Full CV/Resume: Update your CV or resume to include your educational background, work experiences, skills, and any volunteer work or projects relevant to the environmental and biodiversity sector.
  • Academic Records: Prepare valid certified copies of your highest qualification, academic record, or transcript. Ensure these documents are certified within the last six months to meet the validity requirement.
  • Identification Document: Have a certified true copy of your South African ID, also certified within the last six months, ready to submit.

Step 2: Online Application Submission

With your documents prepared, follow these steps to submit your application online:

  1. Access the Application Form: Click on the link provided to access the standard online application form.
  2. Fill in the Application Form: Complete all required fields in the form with accurate and current information.
  3. Upload Required Documents: Upload the prepared documents (Letter of Interest, CV/Resume, Academic Records, and ID) as part of the application form. Ensure each document is clear and meets the specified requirements.

Step 3: Review and Submit

Before submitting your application, take a moment to review all the information and documents for accuracy and completeness. Once satisfied, submit your application through the online platform.

After Submission

After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgment of receipt. SANBI will review applications, and successful candidates will be contacted for the next steps in the selection process. If you do not hear back within 40 days of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

This is a unique chance to grow professionally while making a tangible impact on South Africa’s environmental and biodiversity management.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply and take the first step towards a rewarding career with SANBI. For inquiries and follow-ups, please contact Ms. Viwe Balfour at Balfour@sanbi.org.za.
