Chiefs Keeper Brandon Petersen Aims to Bring a Trophy Home
After recently securing a contract extension with Kaizer Chiefs, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has his eyes firmly set on bringing an end to the club’s frustrating nine-year trophy drought. Amakhosi have refocused their ambitions, targeting this season’s DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup titles. The Cape Town-born shot-stopper is eager to make his mark and help turn their ambitions into reality.
Petersen anticipates reclaiming the starting position for Amakhosi’s upcoming match against Royal AM in Durban. With several key players, including goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma and midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, also having their contracts extended, there’s a sense of renewed purpose flowing through the club.
Speaking directly to the club’s media department, Petersen emphasized his personal drive to make significant contributions towards a new era of success at Naturena.
“I’m happy to continue my great journey with Kaizer Chiefs,” Petersen told Kaizer Chiefs media. “We need to keep working hard as a collective so we can reward the Chairman and millions of supporters who fill us stadiums every week to see us play by bringing some silverware to Naturena.”
Despite a strong start to the season under then-mentor Molefi Ntseki, the 29-year-old goalkeeper has recently seen a dip in playing time. The pressure proved challenging, with senior teammate Itumeleng Khune first, and then Bvuma, ultimately filling the starting role.
As Chiefs get ready for their highly anticipated return clash against Thwihli Thwahla on Sunday afternoon, the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits player is ready to compete for the starting position. While his personal statistics show room for improvement (four clean sheets in 11 appearances with 10 goals conceded), Petersen’s ambition and determination could serve as vital components in Amakhosi’s drive to break their title-less streak.
