Phillip Ndlondlo Seeks to Seat Orlando Pirates at the Top of the League Table
As the second half of the DStv Premiership season nears its return, Orlando Pirates midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo says he wants to help the club to league glory.
The former TS Galaxy midfielder has challenged himself to stop Mamelodi Sundowns and improve his goal-contribution ratio for Pirates in the second half of the current campaign.
Under Riveiro, Pirates sit at number five on the log table with 25 points from 16 matches and Ndlondlo wants them to do better in the second stanza of the league.
As things stand, the 28-year-old nippy Ndlondlo has found the back of the net on one occasion and managed two assists from 21 matches across all competitions.
With the Premier Soccer League having postponed midweek league games, Pirates are set to face log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns in an eagerly anticipated clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday night.
Before the announcement to postpone the league matches this week, Pirates were initially scheduled to host Chippa United at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
“I am not entirely happy with my contribution this season but with the little glimpse that I’ve shown, I am confident that I am getting somewhere…there’s always room for improvement,” Ndlondlo said during a visit at Zodwa Khoza Foundation Skills and Entrepreneurial Development Centre in Diepkloof.
“In the second round of the season, I really want to improve by scoring more goals and providing more assists because that would help the team win more games.”
On top of that, the talented midfielder added that a positive mindset will help Pirates ensure they overcome Sundowns and achieve their goals.
As things stand, the Buccaneers are 13 points behind leaders Rulani Mokwena’s coach Sundowns who just signed Thembinkosi Lorch from Pirates – but the Brazilians have two games in hand.
“Not a lot of things that need to be changed but it’s only the mindset. Other than that, we’ve been doing well, so in the second round of the season our focus will be mainly on improving our mental strength,” Ndlondlo added.
