Sundowns News: Matias Esquivel Targets More Glory
Argentina’s new Mamelodi Sundowns Matias Esquivel reveals his ambitions as he looks to make his mark and win trophies under coach Rulani Mokwena at Chloorkop.
Esquivel arrived at Chloorkop during the January transfer window and states that he wants to taste more success with the reigning DStv Premiership champions.
Having joined Masandawana from Club Atletico Lanus, the 24-year-old midfielder also revealed his excitement as a new Sundowns player.
In an interview with the club’s digital magazine, Esquivel appeared as a top talent with a massive reputation and will add to Sundowns’ star-studded attack.
Following speculation from local media – the Brazilians unveiled the talented midfielder on transfer deadline day – and he says joining the Tshwane giants is a big step in his career.
“I am very happy to be here, and joining this great club is the right step for my career,” Esquivel revealed his ambitions to Sundowns’ Digital Magazine.
“The opportunity to be a part of Mamelodi Sundowns is something I couldn’t pass up.
“The club’s ambition and recent successes are truly impressive, and I am eager to contribute to their continued achievements.”
Esquivel’s arrival comes as a huge plus for the inaugural African Football League champions because he can play in various roles.
The South American star added that he is comfortable playing as a winger or in attack to complement the likes of evergreen skipper Themba Zwane among others.
“Whether it’s in attack or on the wings, I am ready to adapt and contribute wherever the team needs me,” added the new Sundowns recruit.
“I look forward to being part of the team’s exciting brand of football and making a positive impact during my time with the Yellow Nation.”
According to the nippy midfielder’s abilities as Esquivel embarks on this new chapter with Sundowns, many football fans expect flair, and dynamic play as Kaboyellow targets their second CAF Champions League title.
Looking at their schedule as the season came to a halt owing to the ongoing AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, Sundowns are set to return to action against Golden Arrows on Wednesday, February 14 away from home.
