Kaizer Chiefs News: Bruce Bvuma Contract Speculations
Kaizer Chiefs has spent this AFCON period preparing for the return of the PSL season, part of this preparation were discussions with their keeper Bruce Bvuma, and this has come with various speculations.
While his future remains a subject of speculation at Naturena, Kaizer Chiefs keeper Bruce Bvuma is not worried about his expiring contract which comes to an end in June 2024.Bvuma says his focus is on doing well for the Soweto giants, Chiefs as they return to DStv Premiership action next week.
The former Amakhosi development keeper was starved of regular game time at the beginning of the current season but has since emerged as the preferred choice by interim coach Cavin Johnson.
Following his struggles as former coach Molefi Ntseki used Brandon Petersen and veteran gloveman, Itumeleng Khune, speculation was rife that Bvuma was seeking a move away from Chiefs.
However, in his latest interview with the Sowetan, Bvuma says he is not concerned or unfazed by his contract and uncertain future at Naturena – saying the management will decide his fate.
Since Ntseki’s axing late last year, Bvuma has seemingly impressed Johnson and reclaimed the number one Chiefs jersey towards the end of last year – he has managed to keep an impressive three clean sheets in four matches.
“I think that goes to the management on contract issues. My job is to perform, and I’m not only performing well because my contract is coming to an end,” Bvuma said.
“As a player, I set myself targets…that I would like to play a certain number of games and also perform well for the team.”
Based on his displays between the goalposts, the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper seems convinced Chiefs’ hierarchy will extend his stay beyond the current season.
“I want the team to win. I want the team to do well for me and my family because there are a lot of people who are looking up to us,” added Bvuma.
“I have a village that I need to take care of. So, I’m not only performing for myself.
“I have a lot of people that I need to perform well for so that I can take care of them.”
Chiefs will return to league action next week after the Afcon break, they are scheduled to host TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday, February 13.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old also speaks about that eagerly anticipated clash, adding that their mission is to return to the CAF Champions League.
“We are looking forward to the resumption of the league. We’ve been working very hard and I hope that when we resume the season, all the hard work that we have been putting through shows up,” he added.
“We know that we need to perform. Before we close, we were doing well and of course, we went into the break, but we are looking forward to the remainder of the season.
“As I mentioned, we have been working very hard. All we want now is the season to resume and we get going.
“We would like to go back to Africa to play CAF games. It is one of our dreams, our target for the season.”
