Check If Your Area Is Affected – Eskom Load Reduction from 7 to 13 July 2025
Gauteng residents are once again bracing for power cuts this week as Eskom continues with its load reduction programme, targeting areas with high levels of electricity theft and infrastructure overload. The latest schedule, released on July 7, outlines specific areas across the province that will experience electricity outages from Monday, July 7, to Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Why Load Reduction?
Unlike traditional load shedding which is often triggered by supply shortages, load reduction is implemented in areas with overburdened infrastructure. It helps Eskom protect transformers from failure due to illegal connections and excessive usage, particularly during peak periods.
This schedule is part of Eskom’s broader initiative to stabilise supply and minimise unplanned blackouts. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to reduce usage and use electricity responsibly when power is restored.
Affected Time Slots and Areas
The load reduction programme is structured around two peak periods:
- Morning: 5:00 AM – 9:00 AM
- Evening: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

- Keep fridges and freezers closed to retain cold during cuts.
- Charge phones and laptops ahead of time.
- If in doubt, check Eskom’s social media for real-time updates.
Stay Ahead of the Darkness
With Eskom’s load reduction now a regular part of life for many in Gauteng, staying informed and prepared is the best defence. While the load cuts may be inconvenient, they’re meant to protect essential infrastructure and prevent wider, uncontrolled blackouts.
