BMW has officially unveiled the pricing for its next-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe in South Africa. Scheduled to launch before mid-year, this sedan will be available in two variants, with pricing starting at R725,500, making it the most budget-friendly BMW sedan in the country.
Engines and Performance
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe serves as the sedan counterpart to the latest 1 Series hatchback and shares its engine options. The entry-level 218 model is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 115kW and 230Nm of torque. This power is directed to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, achieving an average fuel consumption of 6.4l/100km. The 218 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 226km/h.

For those seeking a sportier option, the M235 variant features a more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 225kW and 450Nm. Equipped with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system and the same seven-speed automatic gearbox, the M235 sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250km/h. However, with greater power comes increased fuel consumption, rated at 7.8l/100km.

Exterior and Interior Features
The latest 2 Series Gran Coupe has received a significant design overhaul to align with BMW’s current styling trends. The front showcases a signature kidney grille flanked by modern LED headlights and vertical daytime running lights, with an optional upgrade to Matrix LED technology. The coupe-like roofline enhances its sporty silhouette, while redesigned LED taillights and hidden exhaust pipes refine its rear profile. Customers can also select from nine exterior colours, with the option of a contrasting black roof.
Inside, the cabin reflects BMW’s commitment to sustainable luxury, featuring eco-friendly, leather-free upholstery in four two-tone colour schemes. Alternatively, buyers can opt for Veganza/Alcantara trim with contrast stitching. The electronically adjustable front seats include heating functions, with an optional upgrade to M Sport seats featuring massage and lumbar support.

The dashboard houses a dual curved display, consisting of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment screen. Powered by BMW’s latest Operating System 9, the infotainment system offers voice control, BMW Maps with cloud-based navigation, over-the-air software updates, and seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Standard features include automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and a suite of driver-assistance technologies such as front-collision warning, lane-departure warning, exit warning, traffic sign recognition, and a Parking Assistant with a surround-view camera and parking sensors.

For those opting for the high-performance M235, additional features include adaptive M suspension, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, visible quad tailpipes, and an M Sport leather steering wheel with paddle shifters.
