According to Abrahams, the speed hump is being placed at a strategic point on Ballito Drive to ensure that vehicles approaching from below are forced to slow down. This is particularly important given the layout of the road, which includes a blind corner near the intersection. By reducing speed, the risk of collisions with cars exiting Seaward Estate will be significantly minimized.

The municipality’s budget for this financial year had already been allocated to speed hump installations in four other wards—4, 6, 21, and 22—leaving insufficient funds to install a second speed hump on Ballito Drive at this time.
However, Abrahams remains optimistic about future improvements, stating, “If the first speed hump proves effective, we will advocate for a second one once the new financial year begins in July.” The addition of a second hump would further enhance safety by ensuring that vehicles traveling in both directions are forced to slow down before reaching the intersection.
