Revitalizing Communities Through Employment Opportunities
Limpopo has ushered in a wave of optimism, employing over 170 individuals in public sector roles under the leadership of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure MEC Tonny Rachoene. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as the province works to address unemployment and enhance service delivery in communities.
Empowering Limpopo: A Commitment to Job Creation
As South Africa recorded a 1.4% decrease in national unemployment, Limpopo’s unemployment rate saw a marginal 1.2% quarterly increase, according to Stats SA’s Labour Force Survey. In response, MEC Rachoene has intensified efforts to combat joblessness by creating opportunities across the province’s five key regions: Sekhukhune, Vhembe, Capricorn, Waterberg, and Mopani.
On Monday, 174 recruits officially joined the department, bringing renewed hope to communities. The new hires include 83 women, 73 youth, and three individuals living with disabilities, reflecting an inclusive hiring strategy.
Rachoene emphasized his dedication to strengthening the department’s internal capacity to deliver essential services. “One of the things I committed to when I was given this portfolio as MEC was to create jobs,” he said during the welcoming ceremony.
More Jobs on the Horizon
Rachoene has pledged further job opportunities, announcing plans to issue a new circular to advertise additional posts by the end of the financial year. These roles will span crucial services such as road infrastructure, education and health projects, financial management, and corporate services.
The recruitment drive has already positively impacted many lives. A 35-year-old woman expressed her gratitude, stating, “Today, I will be able to put bread on the table for my family.”
Similarly, Phillip Machubeni, a father of five from Morutji near Tzaneen, praised the initiative: “We will be able to buy Christmas clothes and school necessities for our children. The future looks bright.”

With Christmas approaching, the initiative has provided early festive cheer to families. The new jobs symbolize more than economic stability; they represent hope for a brighter tomorrow under MEC Rachoene’s leadership.
