Spring weather in Gauteng is often unpredictable, so residents are advised to check regular updates and prepare for shifting conditions.

Friday: Warm and Mostly Clear With Showers Possible

Friday will be the warmest day of the weekend.

  • Pretoria: 16°C low, 27°C high
  • Johannesburg: 12°C low, 26°C high
  • Vereeniging: 13°C low, 27°C high

Skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy. Humidity sits between 40% and 45%. Winds remain moderate from the northwest, at about 9 km/h.

The chance of rain is 30% for Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Vereeniging. Light showers of up to 3 mm are possible in the evening.

Saturday: Hotter and More Humid, Limited Rainfall

Saturday will feel hotter, especially in Pretoria.

  • Pretoria: 18°C / 31°C
  • Johannesburg: 16°C / 27°C
  • Vereeniging: 16°C / 27°C

Cloud cover increases, with humidity rising to around 50% in Johannesburg and Vereeniging. Most forecasts predict no rain, but Pretoria carries some uncertainty. Eyewitness News (EWN) suggests a 60% chance of showers in the city, while other models expect dry conditions.

Sunday: Thundershowers Return in the Afternoon

Sunday will see more widespread showers and thundershowers, especially in Johannesburg and Vereeniging.

  • Pretoria: 16°C / 30°C, humidity ~50%
  • Johannesburg: 17°C / 29°C, humidity ~25%
  • Vereeniging: 16°C / 29°C, humidity ~30%

Rain chances rise to about 30%, with showers likely in the afternoon. Storms may be brief but could bring lightning, gusty winds, and slippery roads. Residents should plan ahead and keep indoor options in mind.

Week Ahead: Hot With Intermittent Showers

Looking to next week, Gauteng remains warm and unsettled.

  • Monday to Wednesday: highs near 30°C
  • Conditions: partly cloudy to cloudy
  • Rain: scattered afternoon showers expected

The province is moving into its summer rainfall period, where hot mornings often lead to afternoon thunderstorms. Sunrise will be around 05:36, with sunsets between 18:10 and 18:13, providing long daylight hours.

Gauteng Weekend Forecast: What Residents Should Know

The Gauteng Weekend Forecast will affect travel, leisure, and outdoor activities across the province.

  • Events and Leisure: Friday and Saturday are best for outdoor plans, though Pretoria has a higher rain risk on Saturday.
  • Sunday Activities: Afternoon thundershowers could disrupt outdoor events. Keep backup options ready.
  • Travel: Storms may cause slippery conditions. Drivers should allow extra travel time.
  • Sports & Recreation: Hot conditions mean sunscreen, hydration, and rest breaks are important.

Outlook for the Province

The weekend brings a mix of hot afternoons, partly cloudy skies, and returning thundershowers on Sunday. Friday will be the warmest day, Saturday remains mostly dry but uncertain in Pretoria, and Sunday carries the strongest chance of showers.

With highs near 30°C continuing into next week, Gauteng is entering its summer rainfall season. Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware and follow official alerts from SAWS to plan safely.
