The 2025 PPS Road Race returns to Alberton on Sunday, 9 November, bringing together runners of all abilities for one of Gauteng’s most anticipated community sporting events. Hosted by the Alberton Athletics Club, the race starts at 06:00 from the Alberton Rugby Stadium in Verwoerdpark and is sanctioned by Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA).
A Race for Every Runner
The PPS Alberton event caters to everyone, from elite athletes chasing personal bests to families and fun runners out for a scenic morning. Participants can choose between 21km, 10km, or a 4km fun run, making it one of the most inclusive road races in the province.
Organisers expect another strong turnout this year, as the event continues to grow in popularity. “The race is intended for amateur runners, serious athletes and those who just want to have a fun day out,” organisers noted.
Runners can also look forward to another major event later in the month — the Soweto Marathon set for November 29, one of South Africa’s most iconic road races.

Well-Organised and Runner-Friendly
The PPS Road Race has earned praise for its efficient organisation, ample parking, and smooth race-day logistics. The course is undulating yet fast, providing ideal conditions for personal records while still being accessible to beginners.
Local residents and businesses often line the streets to support the runners, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. Organisers have also confirmed increased prize money across categories, adding extra motivation for competitive athletes.
Community Spirit and Local Impact
Beyond the athletic challenge, the event holds deep community significance. Alberton’s residents and clubs rally together each year to ensure the race runs seamlessly. The race boosts local businesses and promotes healthy lifestyles — two outcomes that have become central to the event’s legacy.
With growing participation year after year, the 2025 PPS Road Race reinforces Alberton’s status as a running hub in Gauteng. It also provides visibility for the region’s many athletics clubs and development runners, who benefit from ASA’s structured race calendar.
Health, Fitness, and Family Fun
Running events like the PPS Road Race highlight the value of fitness, community, and connection. Families often join the 4km fun run, turning the morning into an active day out. The event also encourages youth participation, promoting long-term interest in athletics.
According to Athletics South Africa (ASA), local road races contribute significantly to the national running calendar, helping nurture future marathon talent while promoting physical wellbeing at a grassroots level.
In entertainment news, festivalgoers are still waiting for updates after the Hey Neighbour Festival 2025 cancelled: refunds are still pending announcement, and shocked fans nationwide.
Plan Your Race Day
Participants are advised to arrive early on race morning, as roads around Verwoerdpark will be partially closed. Warm-up areas and hydration points will be clearly marked. The Alberton Athletics Club also recommends using the stadium’s parking facilities to ensure safety and easy access.
