Originally set to debut in July, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has officially delayed its launch to August. The postponement is attributed to production planning challenges and the fine-tuning of components exclusive to this special model.
A Delayed Arrival — But Worth the Wait
TSAM confirmed to The Citizen Motoring that the delay stems from ensuring readiness for the bespoke elements that define the Legend 55. Built at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in Durban — alongside other popular models like the Fortuner, Hiace, Corolla Cross, and Corolla Quest — the Legend 55 represents a significant milestone in the Hilux lineup.
It’s been five years since the Hilux Legend 50 was released, and the Legend 55 is expected to be the last commemorative edition before an all-new Hilux generation hits the market within the next year or two.
