Mduduzi Mdantsane’s quest for more game time has hit a roadblock, as his loan spell at Richards Bay FC ends with the midfielder returning to Kaizer Chiefs. This was confirmed by Richards Bay FC chairman Jomo Biyela in an exclusive update to SABC Sport. Despite high hopes for a fresh start, the 30-year-old struggled to make an impact, featuring in just two matches during the second half of the season.
Here’s a closer look at what happened and what’s next for the former Cape Town City star.
Limited Opportunities at Richards Bay
Despite joining midway through the season, Mdantsane only managed two appearances for Richards Bay, a clear indication that coaches Ronnie Gabriel and Papi Zothwane did not see him as a key player in their campaign.
Richards Bay eventually finished in a respectable top-eight spot, but Mdantsane’s loan spell did not provide the development or exposure both player and Chiefs would have hoped for.
Richards Bay Chairman Confirms Loan Players Returning
Richards Bay FC chairman Jomo Biyela spoke exclusively to SABC Sport and confirmed that all loan players, including Mdantsane, will return to their parent clubs now that the season has ended.
“I won’t say no if my technical team wants to keep him, but as things stand right now I can tell you that all loan players – including Mdantsane – are going back to their clubs at the end of the season,” Biyela said.
What’s Next for Mdantsane at Kaizer Chiefs?
Mdantsane remains under contract with Kaizer Chiefs until June 2026, but the limited game time on loan is a setback in his career progression. Chiefs themselves had a tough season, missing out on the MTN8 tournament under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
With the club looking to overhaul their squad ahead of next season, it is unclear whether Mdantsane will be reintegrated into the team or if he will be sent out on loan again—or even sold.
