Get Cheaper Gautrain Tickets With KlevaMova’s 50% Discounted Fares
SHARE

Commuting in Gauteng just became more affordable thanks to the Gauteng Provincial Government’s new initiative, KlevaMova. Launched recently, this innovative fare product offers 50% discounted Gautrain tickets for qualifying commuters, making the popular rapid transit system accessible to more people across the province.

Here is how you can get cheaper Gautrain tickets with KlevaMova, who qualifies, and how to apply — all in straightforward terms to help you save on your daily travel.

What Is KlevaMova and Who Qualifies?

KlevaMova was introduced by the Gauteng Provincial Government to ease the cost of Gautrain travel for lower-income earners and other qualifying groups. The announcement came from Roads and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, who emphasised the government’s commitment to making the Gautrain more accessible and affordable.

The scheme offers a 50% discount on return trip, weekly, and monthly Gautrain tickets for selected passengers, targeting those who may struggle with the premium fares. The following groups are eligible:

  • Households with a combined annual income of R350,000 or less before deductions
  • People with disabilities earning up to R600,000 per year
  • Pensioners aged 60 years and older
  • School learners (referred to as “scholars” under 18 years)

While Gauteng’s announcement mentioned students under 25 might qualify, the KlevaMova online portal specifically lists school learners and pensioners. Tertiary students continue to enjoy a 25% discount on weekly and monthly products, but not the KlevaMova 50% discount.

How to Apply for KlevaMova’s Discounted Gautrain Tickets

Applying for KlevaMova is a simple online process hosted on the Gautrain website. Here’s what you need to know:

Required Information and Documents

When filling out the online application form, you must provide:

  • Name, surname, phone number, and ID number (mandatory)
  • Work contact number and email (optional)

To verify eligibility, the following documents must be submitted, depending on your qualifying criteria:

CriteriaRequired Documents
Household income under R350,000Copy of ID/birth certificate, recent payslip, last 3 months’ bank statements, home and work address, or an official employer letter
People with disabilities (earning ≤R600,000)Copy of ID and proof of disability (e.g., Sassa disability grant card)
Pensioners (60+)Copy of pensioner’s ID
Parents applying for scholarsCopy of parents’ and child’s IDs

Important Notes on Travel Routes and Discounts

Applicants must specify the two Gautrain stations they travel between because the discount only applies to trips on that specific route. KlevaMova discounts do not apply to Gautrain buses, minibus services, or parking fees.

Why KlevaMova Matters for Gauteng Commuters

The introduction of KlevaMova reflects the Gauteng government’s efforts to promote public transport affordability and inclusivity. Many residents rely on the Gautrain for fast, safe, and reliable transport, but premium fares have sometimes been a barrier.

By providing targeted discounts, KlevaMova not only supports low-income families, pensioners, and learners but also encourages greater use of public transport, which can reduce traffic congestion and environmental impact.

Steps to Get Your KlevaMova Discount Today

  1. Check Eligibility: Review the income and demographic criteria on the Gautrain website.
  2. Prepare Documents: Gather your ID, income proof, and other required documents.
  3. Complete Application: Fill out the KlevaMova online application form.
  4. Submit and Wait: Await confirmation and instructions from Gautrain.
  5. Start Saving: Once approved, purchase discounted tickets for your specified route.

If you travel regularly on the Gautrain and meet the eligibility criteria, KlevaMova offers a fantastic opportunity to reduce your travel costs by half. This initiative aligns with Gauteng’s vision for equitable access to public transport, ensuring more residents can enjoy the convenience and speed of the Gautrain.
