To celebrate his remarkable achievement, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has rewarded him with a brand-new car.
Relebohile Mofokeng’s Success in 2023/24
The 19-year-old had an outstanding 2023/24 season, playing a crucial role in helping Orlando Pirates secure the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles. His impressive performances also earned him his first call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
His contributions to the Buccaneers did not go unnoticed, as he also won individual accolades, including the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup’s Most Promising Player of the Tournament. His ability to influence matches with his versatility as both a midfielder and winger has made him one of the most exciting young talents in South African football.
The Big Reward: Mofokeng Gets His Car
The Gauteng Department of Sports confirmed that they would be rewarding Mofokeng with a car for his achievements. “Gauteng Sport Awards Personality of the Year winner, Relebohile Mofokeng, will receive his prize of a brand-new car handed over by MEC Matome Chiloane,” the department said in a statement.
The official handover of the vehicle took place on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, at Bidwest McCarthy VW Westgate in Roodepoort. The car, courtesy of sponsors Joma Sport, was presented to Mofokeng as a token of appreciation for his contribution to sports in Gauteng.

The Importance of Schools Football
Speaking at the handover event, Mofokeng highlighted the crucial role that schools football played in his journey. “Schools football is very important because it gives young players a chance to showcase their talent at an early age. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, and I hope to see more young players getting the same support,” he said.
Mofokeng’s rapid rise from the School of Excellence to becoming a key player for Orlando Pirates is an inspiration to many aspiring footballers in South Africa. His achievements serve as a testament to hard work, dedication, and the power of grassroots football development.

Looking Ahead
With his brand-new car and a growing list of accolades, Mofokeng is undoubtedly a player to watch in South African football. As Orlando Pirates continue their campaign in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the CAF Champions League, fans will be eager to see how he continues to develop and make his mark both domestically and internationally.
His recognition as the Sports Personality of the Year underscores his influence in the game, and if his current trajectory is anything to go by, the future looks incredibly bright for this young sensation.
