South Africa Weather Forecast for Today - 23 September 2024
SHARE

Today’s weather across the country brings a variety of conditions, with some areas experiencing a bit of warmth after heavy snowfall and rainfall. Sunny days in some areas are to be expected and cooler coastal breezes in others. Here’s a breakdown of the weather in key cities, their respective provinces, and important weather warnings to remember.

SA Weather Forecast for Today

  1. Pretoria (Gauteng)
    • Pretoria will enjoy warm and partly cloudy conditions with temperatures ranging from 10°C in the morning to a high of 23°C in the afternoon. The day will remain dry and clear, making it perfect for outdoor activities.
    • Warning: Be mindful of the high UV index during the midday hours, so apply sunscreen if spending time outdoors.
  2. Johannesburg (Gauteng)
    • Johannesburg will see pleasant spring weather, slightly windy and cloudy temperatures starting at 8°C in the morning and reaching 20°C by afternoon. Humidity is at 74%.
    • Warning: Despite the cloudy conditions, UV levels will be high, especially at noon. Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.
  3. Cape Town (Western Cape)
    • Cape Town will experience cooler conditions in the morning temperatures ranging from 15°C. However, warm and sunny conditions are expected in the peak afternoon with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 29°C. Partly cloudy skies and a coastal breeze will keep things fresh.
    • Warning: Wind speeds are expected to pick up in the afternoon, particularly along the coastline. Exercise caution if engaging in water activities or driving on exposed roads.
  4. Durban (KwaZulu-Natal)
    • Durban will be warm and humid, with temperatures starting at 16°C and reaching a high of 23°C. The day will be mostly sunny with a light breeze.
    • Warning: Durban’s humidity levels will rise as the day progresses, which may cause discomfort. Ensure adequate hydration if spending time outdoors, and watch out for minor heat stress in sensitive individuals.
  5. Bloemfontein (Free State)
    • Bloemfontein will see clear skies and warm weather, with temperatures ranging from 10°C in the morning to 23°C by afternoon. Dry conditions make it ideal for outdoor activities.
    • Warning: Fire danger is elevated due to the dry and warm weather. Be cautious with open flames and avoid starting any fires, as conditions are ripe for wildfires. UV will be high, wear sunscreen.
  6. Polokwane (Limpopo)
    • Polokwane will be a little warmer than yesterday, with temperatures peaking at 22°C in the afternoon, starting from a low of 8°C. The dry and cool day is, however, great for exploring the outdoors like running.
    • Warning: The risk of dry skin is moderate due to moderate dew points and breezy weather. Rehydrate with lotion.
  7. Upington (Northern Cape)
    • Upington will have one of the warmest days in the country, with temperatures rising from 13°C to 31°C by the afternoon. However, expect winds of up to 33km per hour.
    • Warning: The dry heat can cause dehydration, so drink plenty of water. Additionally, windy conditions could lead to dust storms, so drive carefully and stay alert on the roads.
  8. Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha, Eastern Cape)
    • Port Elizabeth will experience cooler coastal weather, with temperatures between 15°C in the morning and 24°C in the afternoon. The fresh sea breeze will make for a pleasant day.
    • Warning: The wind may pick up by the late afternoon, potentially challenging sea activities like surfing or sailing. Exercise caution around exposed coastal areas.
  9. East London (Eastern Cape)
    • East London will see warmer temperatures, starting at 16°C and reaching 24°C by midday. Partly windy and cloudy.
    • Warning: There’s a risk of strong winds in the late afternoon, which may cause hazardous conditions for those near the coast. Avoid areas prone to high winds or crashing waves.
  10. Mahikeng (North West)
    • Mahikeng, the capital of North West, will experience warm weather today, with temperatures starting at 10°C and climbing to a high of 22°C. Generally clear, providing ideal conditions for outdoor activities.
    • Warning: Similar to other inland areas, the UV index will be high. Ensure adequate sun protection if spending time outdoors, especially during midday.

South Africa is set for a pleasant spring day on 23 September 2024, with warm temperatures dominating much of the country. However, key warnings include high UV indexes in Gauteng, heat stress in Durban, fire danger in Bloemfontein, and strong winds in coastal areas like Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, and East London. Take appropriate precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable day outdoors across South Africa!
