On Monday night, North West businessman Oupa “Brown” Mogotsi came under fire while driving a red Chevrolet in Vosloorus. Unknown gunmen opened fire, striking his vehicle with more than eight bullets. The Vosloorus police recovered the bullet-riddled vehicle and confirmed it belonged to Mogotsi.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that ballistic experts were on the scene.
“We are investigating a case of attempted murder. Mr Mogotsi has promised to formally open a case,” Mathe said.

Vehicle Found in Damaged Condition
The red Chevrolet was found in poor condition, with worn tyres and shattered glass throughout. Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered a mysterious white box, the contents of which are still unknown. The car is currently under police protection as investigations continue.
Mathe stated that authorities are also working to determine whether Mogotsi was alone during the shooting or accompanied.

Jeremy Michaels, spokesperson for the Madlanga Commission, confirmed Mogotsi’s safety.
“It is, indeed, Mr Mogotsi’s vehicle that was shot at. He is safe, but the commission is concerned for his protection.”
