Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has thrown his weight behind the idea of bringing Pitso Mosimane to Naturena, insisting the club needs a proven winner if they are to compete with their biggest rivals.
Mosimane, widely regarded as one of Africa’s top tacticians, has been without a club since parting ways with Iranian side Al Wahda earlier this year. Although Amakhosi have been linked with him in the past, no formal move has ever materialised.
Khan: Pitso Brings Pedigree and Ambition
Speaking to Soccer Beat, Khan highlighted the qualities Mosimane could bring to Chiefs.
“Pitso Mosimane is a high-profile coach. He has won the Champions League more than once and comes with an incredible track record. But he also arrives with high expectations. The question is whether Chiefs can provide him with the kind of players he needs to succeed not just the salary,” Khan said.
He added that Mosimane has unfinished business in South African football.
“Pitso doesn’t want to settle for second best. He still has a score to settle with Sundowns, and beyond that, he wants to prove he is the best coach this country has produced in the last decade.”
Kaizer Chiefs Must Match Rivals’ Standards
Khan believes Chiefs cannot hope to challenge Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns without appointing a coach of Mosimane’s calibre.
“If I were Chiefs, I would sign Pitso Mosimane right now because he gives you the best chance to compete with Pirates and Sundowns. Those clubs have stability, and Chiefs need someone of his stature to restore their competitive edge,” he said.
The former Chiefs mentor also pointed out Mosimane’s uncompromising style.
“Pitso is firm about what he wants. You don’t sign players for him; he decides who he needs. That’s how he builds winning teams.”
Coaching Situation at Naturena
With current coach Nasreddine Nabi suspended by management, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have temporarily taken charge of first-team duties. This has only intensified speculation that Chiefs could make a bold move for Mosimane to steady the ship and bring back glory days to Naturena.
