Orlando Pirates are optimistic that Relebohile Mofokeng’s absence will be short-lived after the rising star missed the team’s final training session ahead of their CAF Champions League clash.
The 20-year-old winger, who was instrumental in the Buccaneers’ narrow 1-0 win over Siwelele FC earlier this week, was a surprise omission from Friday’s session at Orlando Stadium. His absence fueled concern among supporters, particularly with Pirates preparing for their crucial second-leg tie against Lioli FC of Lesotho.
Ouaddou Cautious on Update
Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou confirmed the matter when pressed for clarity but opted for caution, saying the medical department would provide further assessment.
“Rele is an important player for us, but I have to speak with the doctors to see what is going on. At this stage, I can’t give more details,” Ouaddou explained.
Mofokeng ultimately missed the weekend fixture, though his teammates ensured the Buccaneers advanced comfortably, thrashing Lioli 4-0 and sealing a commanding 7-0 aggregate victory.
Relebohile Mofokeng: Injury Concerns Played Down
While the setback raised eyebrows, a source close to the club moved quickly to ease fears, stressing that the youngster’s issue is not serious.
“It’s nothing major. He should be back soon,” the source revealed, suggesting that the forward is unlikely to face a lengthy layoff.
Race Against Time for Premiership Return
Attention now shifts to Pirates’ upcoming Betway Premiership encounter against TS Galaxy on Tuesday. Whether Mofokeng recovers in time to feature remains uncertain, but there is growing confidence inside the camp that his return is not far away.
For now, the Buccaneers will be hoping their talented attacker shakes off the knock swiftly, as his creativity and flair remain crucial to their domestic and continental ambitions.
