As the Betway Premiership resumed following the international break, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi admitted that the club is actively working on reducing the size of its squad.
The Soweto giants have been busy in the transfer market, recently welcoming high-profile arrivals such as Khanyisa Mayo, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mayo, Thabiso Monyane, and Etiosa Ighodaro. The signings reflect Chiefs’ ambitions to mount a serious title challenge this season, but the influx of new faces has left the squad looking overcrowded.
Kaizer Chiefs: Nabi Acknowledges Overcrowded Squad
Speaking about the challenge, Nabi acknowledged that while having quality depth is positive, it also means some players risk being sidelined. He confirmed that the club is exploring options to loan out players who are not getting regular minutes.
“Yes, it is true that the squad is big. The club is working on options to try to offload the squad, especially to give the possibility to some players that didn’t have the consistency or enough time to play more regularly at other teams,” said Nabi.
“We are also considering sending some young players out on loan to gain the experience needed in the PSL. Everyone at the club is aware of this and working around the clock to manage it.”
Khanyisa Mayo Headlines New Arrivals
Among the latest arrivals, Khanyisa Mayo’s signing has drawn the most attention. His father, Patrick Mayo, represented Chiefs between 2003 and 2007, creating a strong family connection to the club. The younger Mayo spent three seasons at Cape Town City before a move to CR Belouizdad last season, where he struggled for consistent form and goals. Now, he has the chance to make his mark at Naturena.

For Nabi, the balancing act of maintaining a competitive squad while ensuring every player develops remains a priority. With Chiefs targeting silverware, the squad reshuffle may prove crucial in building the right blend of depth, experience, and hunger to challenge for honours.
