The Trump T1 Phone promises 5G connectivity, US-based manufacturing, and loyalty to the “America First” movement.
In a move that mixes politics, patriotism, and smartphones, former US President Donald Trump has officially launched the T1 Phone 8002—a shimmering gold smartphone that is proudly marketed as “designed and built in the United States.” The device, part of his new Trump Mobile initiative, aims to undercut major tech firms while serving up red-meat appeal to Trump’s patriotic support base.
The T1 Phone: Price, Features & Availability
The golden gadget is listed at $499 (which translates to around R9,200), with pre-orders available through a $100 (R1,850) deposit. According to Trump Mobile’s official website, the device will be shipped out by September 2025.
Branded the T1 Phone 8002, the smartphone will reportedly offer:
- 5G connectivity through major US carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile)
- Telemedicine services
- Unlimited global texting (to 100 countries)
- Roadside assistance
While the company hasn’t published a full technical spec sheet, the T1 appears designed to compete not with flagship phones like the iPhone 15, but with mid-range Android models—with a distinctly political flavour.
The 47 Plan: A New Conservative Wireless Service
Coinciding with the smartphone launch is “The 47 Plan”, a mobile service named after Trump’s aspirations to become the 47th President of the United States.
This $47.45 (±R875) per month package promises:
- Full 5G access
- Access to services via all three major US telecom networks
- Extra perks like telehealth and roadside help
This appears to be part of Trump’s broader effort to build alternative ecosystems—from media platforms to tech—meant to rival Big Tech, which Trump and his allies often accuse of censorship and anti-conservative bias.

The “Made in America” Claim and Media Scepticism
While the Trump Organisation has boldly stated the T1 is “built entirely in the United States,” several industry observers have raised red flags.
In particular, The Verge’s David Pearce dismissed the website presentation as “sloppy,” suggesting that:
- The promotional image appears heavily Photoshopped
- The “built in the USA” claim lacks sourcing or transparency
- The website doesn’t clarify whether a non-gold version of the phone exists
Tech experts are sceptical that such a complex consumer device could be manufactured entirely within US borders, especially on such short notice.
Taking Aim at Apple and Foreign Tech
The announcement also comes as Trump intensifies his feud with Apple. In a May 2025 Truth Social post, Trump threatened a 25% tariff on iPhones not manufactured in the US:
“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones… will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or any place else… or a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid.”
Although Apple is relocating some assembly operations from China to India, Trump remains adamant that only full domestic manufacturing satisfies his “America First” agenda.
The Bigger Picture: Nationalism Meets Consumer Tech
Trump’s entry into the smartphone market isn’t just about mobile hardware—it’s a strategic shot at Silicon Valley’s dominance. With the T1 Phone and the 47 Plan, the Trump brand is extending into conservative-aligned tech infrastructure, creating products designed to support ideological, economic, and nationalistic goals.
While it’s unclear how competitive the Trump smartphone will be from a purely technical standpoint, the political messaging is loud and clear: “Buy American. Support Trump. Disconnect from Big Tech.”
