As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance electricity service reliability, City Power Johannesburg will carry out essential maintenance work. This proactive initiative aims to address any potential faults and ensure a smoother, more reliable power supply for the communities served by Moffat Substation.

Affected Areas in the Region

The power outage will affect a variety of residential and commercial areas in Region F. If you live in or around the following areas, be prepared for a power interruption:

  • City Deep Extension (1, 4, 6, 24)
  • Electron
  • Elandspark
  • Elladoone
  • Klipriviersberg Estate S.H.
  • Unigray
  • Regents Park Extension (4, 6)
  • Regents Park Estate
  • Roseacre (Extension 1, 3)
  • Roseacre
  • Moffat View (Extensions 3, 4)
  • Rosettenville
  • Moffat View
  • The Hill (Extensions 8)

These areas will experience a full power loss for the duration of the maintenance work. However, power may be restored earlier than expected, so it’s essential to keep all electricity points treated as live until full restoration.

Why is the Power Being Interrupted?

City Power has emphasised that this planned power interruption is a necessary measure to perform maintenance on the network at Moffat Substation. These regular maintenance interventions are part of City Power’s broader commitment to improving the reliability and safety of the power grid across Johannesburg.

By upgrading infrastructure and performing maintenance checks, City Power ensures that outages are minimised in the long term. While the temporary inconvenience may be frustrating, this intervention will ultimately support a more stable and secure electricity supply to the affected areas.

Timing and Key Information on the Planned Power Interruption

  • Scheduled Timing: The power outage will start at 08:00 and end at 16:00 on the 23rd of April 2025.
  • Early Restoration Possible: While the interruption is scheduled for the full 8-hour period, power may be restored earlier depending on the progress of the maintenance work. Always treat your electricity supply as live until confirmed restoration.
  • Affected Areas: Please refer to the list above to check if your area will be affected.

How to Prepare for the Power Outage

To minimise disruption during the Johannesburg planned power interruption, here are some practical tips for residents and business owners:

  1. Backup Power Solutions: If you rely on electricity for essential tasks or have medical equipment, ensure that backup power solutions (like generators or uninterruptible power supplies) are in place.
  2. Save Energy: Charge all devices, phones, laptops, and other battery-operated items before the power goes out.
  3. Alternative Lighting: Ensure you have candles, torches, or other sources of light readily available.
  4. Refrigerated Goods: Keep your fridge or freezer door closed as much as possible to prevent food from spoiling.
  5. Cooking: Prepare meals that don’t require cooking or use alternatives like canned foods during the outage.

By taking these simple steps, you can reduce the impact of the power cut on your daily life.

City Power’s Commitment to Service Excellence

City Power understands the frustration that power outages can cause and regrets any inconvenience this scheduled interruption may cause. However, the utility stresses that such maintenance work is essential for the continued delivery of safe and reliable electricity to its customers.

In their communication, City Power reassures residents that their team will work diligently to restore power as soon as possible. As always, customers are urged to stay updated on any changes to the schedule through City Power’s communication channels.

How to Get More Information

If you have questions or need further clarification regarding the planned power interruption, City Power provides a dedicated customer contact centre. You can reach them on the following numbers:

  • 011 490 7484
  • Toll-Free: 0800 202 925

City Power’s call centre will be available to assist with any queries or concerns, ensuring you are kept informed throughout the day of the outage.

How to Prepare for the Power Outage on 23 April 2025

The upcoming Johannesburg planned power interruption at Moffat Substation is a necessary part of City Power’s ongoing efforts to improve electricity services in Region F.
