Orlando Pirates Transfer News: Pirates Considering 3 Defenders Ahead of New Season

Orlando Pirates are expected to reinforce their defensive lineup in the upcoming season as they seek to address their defensive vulnerabilities. The Buccaneers, who led the Betway Premiership for seven rounds, have struggled for consistency in the second half of the campaign. Despite facing injury concerns in their defensive ranks, the Soweto giants refrained from making any signings during the January transfer window.

Orlando Pirates Eye Defensive Reinforcements

The team’s defensive shortcomings have been a major talking point, with lapses at the back costing them crucial points. With ambitions of competing at the highest level in both domestic and continental competitions, Pirates need to strengthen their squad with top defensive talents. Their recent defeats and inconsistent performances have exposed the need for reinforcements, making the upcoming transfer window a crucial period for the club.

Thabo Moloisane a Primary Target

According to reports from Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates have set their sights on Stellenbosch FC’s key defender, Thabo Moloisane.

“When it comes to defensive reinforcements, Moloisane is Pirates’ primary target. The club is preparing to submit an offer for him as they aim to solidify their central defense. With their participation in multiple competitions, including the CAF Champions League, next season, they want a strong and reliable backline,” a source revealed to the publication.

Moloisane has grown significantly as a player and is currently gaining valuable experience playing in African competitions with Stellenbosch. Pirates see this as a major advantage, as they look for defenders who can handle the intensity and high-pressure situations of continental football. His ability to read the game, win aerial duels, and provide leadership at the back makes him a perfect candidate to bolster the Buccaneers’ defensive unit.

In addition to strengthening the center-back position, Pirates are also monitoring potential recruits for the right-back and left-back positions. Ensuring defensive depth across the backline will be a key priority heading into the new season.

Orlando Pirates Injury Woes and Defensive Concerns

The Buccaneers have been dealing with the absence of Thabiso Sesane, who has been sidelined due to injury. The young defender had been an important part of the defensive structure, and his absence has left a noticeable gap. Although experienced defender Thapelo Xoki recently returned to action, his performances have shown that he may not yet be at peak form. Two defeats in March further exposed the team’s defensive frailties, highlighting the urgent need for reinforcements.

The coaching staff has been working tirelessly to find solutions, but without proper squad depth, it has been difficult to maintain defensive solidity. This is one of the reasons why Pirates have made defensive signings a top priority ahead of next season.

Possible Left-Back Addition

Orlando Pirates are also evaluating options at left-back, with Stellenbosch’s Fawaaz Basadien emerging as a potential signing in the pre-season. The club could explore a swap deal involving one of their current players to secure the talented defender. Basadien has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the league, and his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him a great option for the Soweto giants.

In addition to defensive reinforcements, Pirates are preparing for a potential departure in their attacking ranks. With Relebohile Mofokeng likely to leave at the end of the season, the Buccaneers may look to Oswin Appollis as a replacement to bolster their attack. Appollis has impressed with his pace, dribbling ability, and goal contributions, making him a strong candidate to fill Mofokeng’s shoes should he depart.

Primary Defensive Targets

  1. Thabo Moloisane (Stellenbosch FC): Moloisane has emerged as a key player for Stellenbosch FC, attracting attention from Orlando Pirates. His experience in African competitions adds to his appeal.
  2. Fawaaz Basadien (Stellenbosch FC): To address the left-back position, Pirates are considering Basadien. A potential swap deal involving one of their players is being discussed to facilitate his move to Soweto.
  3. Oswin Appollis (Polokwane City): With Relebohile Mofokeng’s anticipated departure, Pirates are eyeing Appollis as a potential replacement to enhance their defensive options.

Upcoming Clash Against SuperSport United

Orlando Pirates will return to action this weekend as they take on SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup. With their eyes set on silverware, securing a victory will be crucial as they look to build momentum ahead of the next season.

The coming months will be pivotal for the Buccaneers as they seek to reinforce their squad and return to their dominant form in domestic and continental competitions. Strengthening the defensive unit will be key, but the club must also ensure balance across the entire squad. If Pirates can bring in the right players, they have the potential to compete for top honors and establish themselves as a powerhouse in African football once again.
