Corruption Allegations Mount Against Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni as Hawks Conclude Investigation
Calls for the suspension of Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, are intensifying following allegations of irregular contract awarding. The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party has joined the chorus of voices urging President Cyril Ramaphosa to take immediate action amid concerns over her role in overseeing sensitive state intelligence.
Allegations of Tender Corruption
The allegations stem from Ntshavheni’s tenure as municipal manager of the Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality in 2009. At the center of the controversy is a contract initially valued at R584,000, awarded to Makwande Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has completed its investigation into the matter, and the docket is now with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The MK party emphasized the seriousness of these allegations, describing Ntshavheni’s continued role as “untenable and dangerous.” They raised concerns that her position grants access to sensitive intelligence and may allow interference with ongoing investigations.
Growing Political Pressure
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has also entered the fray, writing to President Ramaphosa to request swift action against Ntshavheni. They claim the allegations extend to R2.5 million in tender corruption.
However, the African National Congress (ANC) has come to Ntshavheni’s defense. Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula dismissed the media narrative, arguing that no formal charges have been laid. “Law enforcement must not try people through the media,” Mbalula stated during a recent briefing.

The MK party criticized President Ramaphosa for what they perceive as selective accountability, alleging that he shields close allies like Ntshavheni while acting swiftly against others.
