The MISA Young Graduate Programme falls under the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), a Schedule 3 government part of the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG). MISA has the mandate to provide technical support and build technical capacity for municipalities to enhance their capability to undertake efficient planning, delivery, operations, and management of municipal infrastructure.

MISA is extending opportunities for 2023/24 internship programmes aimed at enabling the achievement of qualified technical specialists to enhance municipal technical capacities.

Successful candidates will be placed in identified municipalities depending on their needs and capacity to expose and give relevant practical experience to the candidates’ choice of disciplines.

About the MISA Young Graduate Programme

Training Disciplines: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Town and Regional Planning

The Young Graduates Programme is a two-to-three-year structured work-based internship development programme focused on taking young graduates from various Universities and Universities of Technology through a structured work plan. It seeks to ensure that candidates are professionally registered as Technicians, Technologists, and Engineers in terms of the approved regulatory and professional body frameworks.

The recruitment is targeting a cohort for the 2023/2024 financial year. While the programme is not exclusively limited to individuals from previously disadvantaged communities, MISA will give preference to historically disadvantaged individuals as well as females, people with disabilities, and MISA bursary beneficiaries.

The Young Graduates will enter a contract with MISA and be placed within the relevant departments within the District Municipalities for the duration of the programme.

Provincial needs list:

Applicants must be willing and available to undergo the required training, deployment, and rotation to district municipalities and private sector consultancies leading toward professional registration. MISA does not guarantee post-internship employment after participation in the programme.

Minimum Requirements for the MISA Young Graduate Programme

Applicants must be unemployed graduates with the following qualifications:

• Civil Engineering: BTech degree / BSc /B Eng in Civil Engineering
• Town & Regional Planning: BTech degree/ BSc in Town & Regional Planning
• Electrical Engineering: BTech Degree / BSc /B Eng in Electrical Engineering

Eligible candidates must also:

• Be willing and available for a minimum of 24 months post-graduation for workplace deployment within a host municipality.
• Applicants must be South African citizens.
