Requirements:
- Grade 12/National Senior Certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Physiotherapist
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a qualified physiotherapist post OSD, of which three (3) years must be in a supervisory position
- Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies Required:
- Knowledge of Physiotherapy high-quality diagnostic, assessment, and therapeutic procedures
- Sound knowledge of the application of clinical Physiotherapy theory, practices, and ethics
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage resources (human, financial, tangible)
- Sound knowledge of policies, regulations, procedures, acts, and charters, i.e., National Rehabilitation Policy, National Health Policy, Batho Pele Principles, Patient Rights Charter, Ideal Hospital Realization and Maintenance Framework (IHRM), Ethical Code of Conduct, Health and Safety, Labour Relations Act, Public Service Act, Public Finance Management Act, etc.
- Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal skills, conflict management, and knowledge of labour relations, disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Excellent computer literacy skills
- Ability to function under pressure
- Driver’s license
Duties
- Provision of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Provide consultative physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to health professionals and patients.
- Supervise all Rehabilitation staff (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy) at the hospital.
- Manage the allocated budget and implement the financial management system for the rehabilitation department.
- Formulate and amend physiotherapy departmental policies.
- Develop, implement, and supervise quality improvement programmes within the rehabilitation department.
- Develop departmental operational plans in alignment with the Institutional operational plan.
- Develop and implement assessment and treatment protocols and guidelines in line with local and international standards and best practices.
- Provide supervision and implement employee performance management and development systems for junior staff.
- Advise and guide on the selection and purchase of rehabilitation equipment, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain records of all CPD points and certificates of training attended by staff.
- Attend Head of Department meetings as required, represent the multidisciplinary team in meetings at the provincial and district levels.
- Provide feedback and action plans from meetings.
- Monitor absenteeism and manage leave of the staff.
- Compile Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) reports for all staff.
- Collect and analyze departmental statistics before submission.
- Address complex professional problems and policy issues with sound judgment for the best possible outcomes.
