Eskom halts power cuts but urges South Africans to conserve electricity amid ongoing system constraints.
Eskom has officially suspended load shedding until further notice. This decision follows the brief implementation of Stage 2 load shedding on Wednesday evening due to the sudden loss of five generating units.
Eskom announced that power cuts were enforced at 18:25 on Wednesday but were lifted by 05:00 on Thursday after restoring sufficient generating capacity.
Despite this positive development, Eskom urges South Africans to continue using electricity wisely, warning that the system remains constrained. “While we have made notable progress in our generation recovery efforts, we still face challenges in ensuring long-term grid stability,” Eskom stated.
Why Was Load Shedding Implemented?
Earlier this week, Eskom lost five generation units unexpectedly, forcing the power utility to implement Stage 2 load shedding to protect the grid from further instability.
Eskom has assured the public that it is prioritizing planned maintenance to strengthen the electricity supply ahead of winter while maintaining compliance with environmental and licensing conditions.

Although load shedding is currently suspended, South Africans should remain cautious. Eskom has not ruled out the possibility of further outages should unexpected breakdowns occur.
The power utility apologized for the inconvenience caused by recent outages and promised to provide updates as required.
