The Department of Employment and Labour is excited to announce the launch of the Presidential Youth Programme for the 2024/2025 cycle. This initiative aims to provide recent graduates with valuable work experience over an eight-month period.

With numerous positions available across various provinces, this programme offers a stepping stone into the professional world for young South Africans.

Presidential Youth Programme 2024/2025 Overview

The Presidential Youth Programme 2024/2025 is designed to help graduates gain practical experience in their respective fields. It targets those who have completed a tertiary qualification and are seeking to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting.

The programme specifically aims to:

  • Enhance employability by providing hands-on work experience.
  • Support the development of essential workplace skills.
  • Facilitate networking opportunities with industry professionals.
  • Offer a structured environment to transition from academic to professional life.

Available Positions

One of the key opportunities under this programme is the Deployment Programme for Counsellors, with 235 posts available across the country. Successful applicants will be placed in various provincial offices, each with a specific reference number for ease of application.

Below is a breakdown of the available positions by province:

  • Gauteng: 50 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/01GP)
  • KwaZulu-Natal: 29 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/02KZN)
  • Eastern Cape: 31 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/03EC)
  • Western Cape: 22 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/04WC)
  • Mpumalanga: 25 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/05MP)
  • North West: 20 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/06NW)
  • Northern Cape: 14 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/07NC)
  • Limpopo: 24 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/08LP)
  • Free State: 20 posts (Ref No: HR4/24/06/09FS)

Salary and Duration

Participants in the Deployment Programme will receive a monthly stipend of R7450.63. This financial support aims to ease the transition into the workforce and provide the means for graduates to support themselves during the eight-month tenure of the programme.

Requirements

To qualify for the Deployment Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a three-year tertiary qualification majoring in Psychology or Industrial Psychology.
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Counsellor (Independent Practice) or in Psychometrics (Independent Practice) is advantageous but not mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the Deployment Programme, the duties of the counsellors will include:

  • Providing administrative support to Employment Counsellors.
  • Conducting research on labour market needs and best practices in employment counselling.
  • Implementing recruitment and selection services.
  • Networking with stakeholders to ensure the quality of services provided.
  • Registering work seekers.
