Cyan Boujee Opens Up About Assault: DJ Shares Her Trauma and Legal Action
The citizen
SHARE

Cyan Boujee, a popular 23-year-old DJ and social media influencer has made headlines after bravely opening up about the traumatic experience she endured at the hands of her boyfriend. In a raw and emotional YouTube vlog, which has since gone viral, the star shared the harrowing details of the alleged assault that led to her hospitalization, as well as the legal steps she is taking to seek justice.

A Shocking Revelation

Cyan Boujee, whose real name is Honour Zuma, revealed in her video that she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend, leading to significant injuries, including bruising around her eyes. The incident escalated to the point where she was hospitalized for a night due to the severity of her injuries. As she recounted the experience, she broke down in tears, visibly shaken by the trauma she had endured.

In the video, Boujee spoke candidly about the events leading up to the assault, expressing how her boyfriend’s behavior took a dangerous turn. “You would think he’s a monster, and he really is, but I think he was in a different state of mind at that time; he wasn’t thinking,” she shared. Cyan’s emotional recounting reflects the intense struggle and confusion she faced during the attack, which she described as a moment where she feared for her life.

A Terrifying Encounter

According to Cyan, the assault did not stop at physical blows. She described how her boyfriend hit her repeatedly and, at one point, escalated the violence by biting her all over, even on her face. “He hit me so much that it felt like punching me wasn’t enough. Then he just started biting me all over, even on my face,” she said. Cyan detailed how she screamed for help, struggling to breathe as the violence continued. “At some point, my eyes just went blank, and I had to fight for myself,” she recalled, her voice breaking as she remembered the horror of that night.

This shocking revelation shines a light on the prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa, a country grappling with rising levels of violence against women. Cyan’s courageous decision to speak out may help raise awareness about the gravity of these issues, urging society to take further action to curb such violence.

Legal Action and Victim Blaming

In her emotional vlog, Cyan also shared that she had taken legal action against her boyfriend, opening a case of assault. However, the aftermath of the assault didn’t end there. According to Boujee, her boyfriend’s parents attempted to bribe her into dropping the charges. “His parents came to see me, and they just wanted to pay me,” she said. Despite the pressure, Cyan remained firm in her decision to pursue justice.

In addition to the legal battle, Cyan revealed that she now lives in constant fear for her safety. She mentioned that she feels unsafe to leave her home, as she is afraid her ex-boyfriend may attempt to harm her again. “I can’t even go outside. I’ve locked all my doors because I’m scared he might enter my house at any time and hurt me,” she said. This constant fear reflects the emotional toll that GBV takes on victims, often leaving them in a state of perpetual trauma and anxiety.

A Call to Action and a Message to Young Girls

Through her painful experience, Cyan Boujee hopes to send a message to young girls and women, encouraging them to take steps to protect themselves and to recognize the signs of abuse in relationships. “I hope young girls learn from my experience,” she stated in her video. “I’m traumatised. I think I’ll never be able to date again. I’m just so broken, but I will be OK.”

Her words are a poignant reminder of the emotional and psychological scars left by intimate partner violence. Despite the overwhelming trauma she has faced, Cyan remains hopeful for her recovery. Her resilience in the face of such violence serves as a beacon of strength for others who may be going through similar struggles.

Moving Forward: A Future of Healing

As Cyan continues her journey of healing, her story serves as an important conversation starter about the widespread issue of GBV and the need for stronger legal protections for victims. By sharing her experience with the world, she has not only exposed the abuse she suffered but also inspired others to take a stand against violence in relationships.

For Cyan, the road to recovery may be long, but her courage to speak out is a powerful reminder that victims of abuse can reclaim their power and seek justice. Her message of survival and strength is an encouragement to all those who may be facing similar challenges in their lives.

As more women like Cyan Boujee step forward and share their stories, it is clear that the fight against gender-based violence is one that will continue to evolve, bringing greater awareness and ultimately, much-needed change.
