Gauteng: Warm and Clear Skies

Today’s weather in Gauteng is warm, dry, and full of sunshine. Both Pretoria and Johannesburg will reach highs around 28°C, perfect for springtime outings. Skies are mostly clear, and a light breeze will make conditions comfortable throughout the day.

The morning started off cool, but temperatures will rise quickly by mid-morning. Outdoor markets, sporting events, and park visits will all benefit from these ideal conditions. If you’re heading out, remember to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated as UV levels are moderate to high.

The pleasant weather is expected to hold through the evening, making this one of the best weekends of the month for outdoor plans in Gauteng.

Western Cape: Mild, Breezy and Partly Cloudy

In Cape Town, today’s weather is noticeably cooler than the rest of the country. Temperatures peak at a mild 22°C, with a fresh southeasterly wind sweeping through the city. Skies will be partly cloudy but bright enough for a day at the V&A Waterfront or a walk along the Sea Point Promenade.

The wind could strengthen later in the afternoon, particularly around Table Mountain and coastal areas, so it’s a good idea to keep a jacket handy. For beachgoers, sea conditions may be rough at times, so caution is advised for swimmers and small boats.

Overall, the Western Cape enjoys a cool and refreshing day, ideal for sightseeing and relaxed weekend activities.

KwaZulu-Natal: Hot and Humid Day Ahead

Durban is set for another hot and sticky day. Today’s weather brings a high of 31°C, paired with high humidity that will make it feel even warmer. The coastal breeze offers little relief, and the UV index will be strong from late morning to mid-afternoon.

Locals and visitors should stay in shaded areas where possible and drink plenty of water. The ocean will provide a welcome escape, but swimmers should remain alert to strong currents.

Inland areas like Pietermaritzburg will also see warm conditions, though slightly less humid. The combination of heat and humidity makes today one of the most tropical-feeling days in the province this month.

Free State: Stable and Sunny

Central South Africa enjoys bright and dry weather today. Bloemfontein reaches a high of 30°C under clear skies. Winds are light, visibility is good, and no rain is expected.

The cool morning air around 14°C gives way to steady warmth throughout the afternoon. It’s a comfortable day for road trips, sports, or outdoor errands. Farmers and gardeners will appreciate the calm, stable conditions.

As the sun sets, temperatures will dip gently, setting up for another warm and pleasant evening in the heart of the country.

Limpopo: Mild Start, Sunny Afternoon

Polokwane begins the day on a crisp note with a morning low of 9°C, but today’s weather warms steadily to 27°C by the afternoon. The skies are clear, and the air remains fresh and dry, creating perfect conditions for outdoor travel or hiking.

The moderate temperatures make this one of the most comfortable regions today. Sunshine will dominate for most of the day, with little to no wind. It’s a picture-perfect spring day for residents and tourists exploring Limpopo’s natural attractions.

Northern Cape: Hot and Dry in Upington

The Northern Cape lives up to its reputation for heat and dryness. Upington reaches 34°C today under blazing sunshine. The air is very dry, and almost no cloud cover is expected.

Today’s weather poses a risk of dehydration and heat stress, especially for those working outdoors. It’s best to avoid direct sunlight during midday hours and to drink plenty of fluids. The evening will be slightly cooler but still warm, around 22°C.

If you’re travelling through the region, make sure your vehicle is stocked with water and sun protection, it’s one of the hottest areas in South Africa today.

Eastern Cape: Extreme Heat Warning

The Eastern Cape faces the most dramatic weather today. East London is set for extreme heat, soaring to 41°C, while Port Elizabeth will reach around 34°C. Today’s weather is dominated by hot, dry winds from the northwest, creating hazardous fire conditions in open areas.

Residents are urged to take precautions, stay indoors where possible, keep hydrated, and avoid outdoor fires or barbecues. The dry, gusty winds make this one of the most dangerous fire-weather days of the month.

Later tonight, a shift in wind direction could bring cooler air from the ocean, offering some relief overnight.

National Overview

Today’s weather shows how varied South Africa’s climate can be in a single day. Gauteng, the Free State, and Limpopo enjoy warm, sunny days perfect for travel and outdoor fun. The Northern Cape and Eastern Cape, on the other hand, are dealing with extreme heat, while the Western Cape stays cool and windy.

From city parks to coastal beaches, the day promises something for everyone as long as you’re prepared for your region’s unique conditions. Inland regions will remain dry and calm, while parts of the coast experience wind and humidity.

This mix of weather patterns highlights the transition toward early summer when inland temperatures rise sharply, and coastal winds shift more frequently.

Safety Tips for the Day

  • Stay hydrated: Carry a water bottle and sip regularly throughout the day.
  • Protect your skin: Apply sunscreen and wear a hat, especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Avoid open flames: In hot, dry areas like the Eastern and Northern Cape, fires can spread quickly.
  • Drive with care: Heat and glare can affect concentration. Take breaks if you’re travelling long distances.
  • Look after pets: Make sure animals have access to shade and cool water.
  • Stay informed: Check local forecasts and alerts on the South African Weather Service.

Today’s weather brings out the beauty and diversity of South Africa’s climate. From the calm warmth of Gauteng to the fiery heat of East London, every province has its own rhythm. Whether you’re heading outdoors or staying in, take a moment to enjoy the changing skies and the feeling of summer slowly arriving.
