Kaizer Chiefs’ youth team will take centre stage on the global stage this November when they face English giants Manchester United in a groundbreaking international tour. The trip comes on the back of their remarkable DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) triumph last season.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL), in partnership with MultiChoice, confirmed that the 2024/25 DDC champions will embark on an 11-day UK tour from 25 November to 7 December 2025, taking on Manchester United, Leeds United, and Queens Park Rangers (QPR) U21 sides.
Kaizer Chiefs: Reward for a Record-Breaking Season
Chiefs earned this historic opportunity after lifting their first-ever DDC title, finishing the campaign with a record-breaking 70 points. Their dominance in the reserve league showcased the strength of the club’s development structures and set a new benchmark for youth football in the country.
The team departs for the United Kingdom on Tuesday, 25 November, and will land in Manchester the following day. Their highly anticipated opening match will be against Manchester United on Friday, 28 November.
Amakhosi will then meet Leeds United on Tuesday, 2 December, before closing off their tour against QPR U21 in London on Saturday, 6 December.
Beyond the Pitch: Exchange Programmes
The tour is not just about football matches. Chiefs’ youngsters will also participate in academy exchange programmes with Manchester United and Liverpool, focusing on knowledge sharing, player development, and cultural immersion.
The group will attend a Premier League fixture between Leeds United and Chelsea, giving them a firsthand experience of top-flight English football. They will also pay a special visit to the Premier League headquarters in London.
A Milestone for Youth Football
The PSL praised the Chiefs youth side for their “grit and determination” throughout the 2024/25 season especially when they continued to pick up points despite losing key players to national team call-ups.
MultiChoice highlighted the initiative as part of its commitment to grassroots development and community upliftment, ensuring that young South African footballers are exposed to international opportunities.
“As the DStv Diski Challenge continues to grow, it stands as a beacon of hope for aspiring footballers – giving them a platform to showcase their talent both nationally and on the global stage,” the company said.
A Proud Moment for South African Football
With the DDC firmly cemented as a key pathway for future stars, this UK tour marks a significant moment for Kaizer Chiefs and South African football. Facing some of the best youth systems in the world will provide Amakhosi’s youngsters with invaluable experience and a chance to put Mzansi’s talent on display at one of football’s biggest stages.
