The stage is set for a blockbuster MTN8 final after tickets for the highly anticipated clash between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC were completely sold out within hours of going on sale.
Ticket Frenzy as Demand Overwhelms Supply
Tickets for the ‘Wafa Wafa’ final, scheduled for Saturday, 13 September 2025 at the Mbombela Stadium, were released on Monday morning and were snapped up by a frenzy of supporters by that same afternoon. This incredible demand underscores the massive anticipation for the encounter between the Buccaneers and Stellies.
With a 6:00 PM kick-off time, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that no tickets will be available for purchase at the stadium gates on the day. The league has urged all successful ticket holders to arrive early, with gates opening at 2:00 PM to ensure smooth access into the venue.
How to Catch the MTN8 Final
For the many fans who were unable to secure their entry, the action will be broadcast live on SuperSport channels and SABC 2. Those making the journey to the stadium can also look forward to an exciting line-up of pre-match entertainment, the details of which are promised to be revealed soon.
The two finalists booked their places in the final in spectacular fashion. Orlando Pirates secured their spot after a dramatic penalty shootout victory, defeating arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 following a fiercely contested semi-final. Stellenbosch FC, on the other hand, displayed commanding form by cruising past Sekhukhune United with a 3-1 aggregate victory over their two-legged tie.
High Stakes and Big Prizes
The final promises not only prestige but also significant financial reward. In a unique incentive structure, the victorious team will pocket a whopping R8 million, while the other seven teams that participated in the competition will each receive R1 million.
The choice of the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga marks a shift from recent tradition. While the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban has been the customary host staging all finals since 2020 and seven of the last ten this final brings the spectacle back to Mpumalanga for the first time since 2016. That year, the now-defunct Bidvest Wits defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 to lift the trophy.
With the tickets gone and the teams ready, all that remains is to see who will emerge as the last team standing and claim the first major domestic honour of the 2025 season.
