Gauteng residents can look forward to a bright and dry winter weekend, as warm weather and sunny skies in Gauteng are expected to bring ideal conditions across both Johannesburg and Pretoria. According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), no rainfall is forecast for the weekend of Saturday, 12 July, to Sunday 13 July 2025.

Gauteng’s Winter Weather Update

After a cold start to July, the weekend ahead offers a welcome change. Gauteng will still experience low morning temperatures, especially in southern regions, with the possibility of light frost. However, once the sun rises, residents will enjoy clear blue skies, dry air, and gentle breezes throughout the day.

This stable weather pattern is typical for the Highveld during winter, where cold mornings are followed by pleasantly sunny afternoons. The South African Weather Service confirms that no cold fronts or rainfall systems are expected over the weekend, and weather conditions will remain calm and dry across the central interior of the country.

Pretoria Weather Forecast

Pretoria is expected to experience clear skies and warm conditions throughout the weekend. Residents can look forward to a dry, sunny Saturday and Sunday with no chance of precipitation.

  • Saturday, 12 July:
    • Morning Low: 7°C
    • Daytime High: 23°C
    • Winds: Light from the southwest
    • Humidity: Between 20% and 35%
  • Sunday, 13 July:
    • Morning Low: 6°C
    • Daytime High: 21°C
    • Conditions: Sunny and dry all day

The dry air and warm daytime temperatures will make Pretoria one of the best spots in Gauteng to enjoy a winter weekend outdoors, perfect for picnics, markets, and exploring the city’s scenic spots like the Union Buildings gardens or Groenkloof Nature Reserve.

Johannesburg Weather Forecast

Johannesburg will also experience warm weather and sunny skies in Gauteng, although it will be slightly cooler than Pretoria. Both days will be dry and clear, with mild afternoons and colder mornings.

  • Saturday, 12 July:
    • Morning Low: 8°C
    • Daytime High: 20°C
    • Wind: Calm, shifting from southwest to north-northwest
    • Humidity: Between 20% and 35%
  • Sunday, 13 July:
    • Morning Low: 8°C
    • Daytime High: 17°C
    • Morning Humidity: 70%, dropping to 45% by evening

The city will remain under clear skies, offering comfortable conditions for walks, hiking, and other outdoor plans. Johannesburgers can enjoy the sunshine at places like Zoo Lake, Emmarentia Dam, or local weekend events without worrying about rain or cloud cover.

What the Dry Weather Means for the Weekend

The forecast of warm weather and sunny skies in Gauteng is excellent news for residents and local businesses. With no rain expected in either Johannesburg or Pretoria, the conditions are ideal for

  • Family outings and picnics
  • Outdoor fitness sessions and park runs
  • Farmers’ markets and food festivals
  • Tourism and day trips around the province

Low humidity, clear skies, and mild temperatures will help bring communities outdoors, especially after a week of cold, frosty mornings. Local tourism spots, restaurants with outdoor seating, and nature reserves are all expected to see increased foot traffic.

Tips for Enjoying the Gauteng Sun

Even with clear skies and warmer afternoons, it’s important to be prepared for the cold morning chill. Here are a few tips to make the most of the sunny weekend:

  • Dress in layers: Start warm in the morning, then remove layers as temperatures rise.
  • Use sunscreen: UV exposure is still significant, even in winter.
  • Stay hydrated: Dry air and mild sun can lead to dehydration.
  • Enjoy the midday sun: Temperatures peak between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Plan outdoor events confidently: With no rain forecast, the weather is perfect for outdoor gatherings.

Looking Ahead for Gauteng

The South African Weather Service expects the stable winter pattern to continue into early next week, with no major changes in temperature or precipitation across Gauteng. Clear skies and warm daytime conditions should extend into mid-July, giving residents more chances to enjoy the great outdoors.

The province is enjoying one of its most pleasant stretches of winter weather so far in 2025, making this the perfect weekend to get out and explore Gauteng.

Whether you’re in Pretoria, Johannesburg, or anywhere in between, the message is clear: get ready for a bright, dry, and comfortable weekend under the warm weather and sunny skies in Gauteng.
