The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released today’s weather, 8 July 2025, and it’s a chilly one! Expect cold and foggy mornings across much of the country, with drizzle in some areas. While the Northern Cape and Western Cape will enjoy clearer skies, the rest of South Africa will experience cooler temperatures and damp conditions. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect where you live.

What’s Happening Today?

Today’s weather is a mixed bag, with some parts of the country starting the day with fog and drizzle, while others will enjoy crisp, clear skies. It’s a good idea to plan your day accordingly, whether you’re heading out for work, school, or errands.

Regional Forecasts:

  • Gauteng:
Gauteng will have a cool to cold day, with partly cloudy skies. Expect morning fog, especially in the central and eastern parts of the province, but things will clear up later. If you’re heading out, be cautious on the roads in the morning due to reduced visibility. Don’t forget the high UVB index for the day, so use sunscreen if you’ll be outside for a while!
  • Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga will start with foggy conditions, particularly in the western areas, which could cause visibility issues. As the day progresses, it will remain partly cloudy with drizzle along the escarpment. Temperatures will be cool to cold, so keep warm if you’re in the higher areas.
  • Limpopo:
Limpopo residents can expect cloudy skies with drizzle in the morning along the escarpment. The weather will be partly cloudy later on, with temperatures staying cool to cold. It’s a day to bundle up if you’re out and about.
  • Northwest:
The Northwestwill enjoy fine, cold to cool weather, with clear skies and no significant weather disruptions. A relatively easy day for those living here!
  • Free State:
Expect morning fog in the eastern parts of the Free State, but by midday, it should be clear. The rest of the day will be cold, with sunny patches. It’s a good day for outdoor activities, as long as you dress warmly!
  • Northern Cape:
The Northern Cape will see fine, cool to cold weather throughout the day, especially in the southern parts, where temperatures will be very cold. But with mostly clear skies, it’s the best weather across the country.
  • Western Cape:
The Western Cape will see fog in the northeastern parts early in the day, but the rest of the province will have fine, cool weather. Expect chilly temperatures, especially inland, but with plenty of sunshine to enjoy.
  • Eastern Cape (Western Half):
Residents in the western half of the Eastern Cape will see fog in some areas, but it will clear by midday. The day will remain cool with colder conditions in the higher areas. It’s a good day to get out and enjoy the crisp weather once the fog lifts.
  • Eastern Cape (Eastern Half):
In the eastern half of the province, morning fog and frost will be an issue, but the skies will clear up in the afternoon. Expect cold to cool weather, making it a perfect day for indoor activities if you’re not a fan of the chill.
  • KwaZulu-Natal:
KwaZulu-Natal’s western regions will experience morning fog, and the northern areas might see some light showers along the coast. The rest of the province will enjoy partly cloudy skies, with cool to cold temperatures. It’s important to note the very high UVB index, so make sure to protect your skin if you’re spending time outdoors.

No Severe Weather Alerts

The South African Weather Service has not issued any severe weather warnings for today. While conditions may be cold and foggy, there are no significant threats to public safety. Still, be mindful of the fog in the morning, particularly when driving.

UVB Sunburn Index

While today may feel cool, the UVB sunburn index is still expected to be high in parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. The sun’s rays can cause harm even on overcast days, so protect your skin with sunscreen if you’ll be outside for an extended period.

CHECK OUT: Today’s Weather Forecast – 8 July 2025

Today’s weather across South Africa is a reminder that winter is still in full swing. Many areas will start the day with cold, foggy mornings and some drizzle. However, parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape will experience more pleasant, fine weather. Whether you’re heading out to work or school, make sure to dress warmly and drive safely in foggy areas.

Stay up-to-date with reliable information from the South African Weather Service for the latest on today’s conditions and forecasts.
