Chinese automotive brands Omoda and Jaecoo are making significant strides in the South African market, firmly establishing themselves as serious contenders in the local car industry. Often referred to collectively as “O&J,” the duo has achieved a major milestone by surpassing the 1,000-unit sales mark in a single month for the first time since entering the market.
According to the latest figures released by Naamsa, Omoda and Jaecoo sold a combined total of 1,099 vehicles in June 2024, marking their best sales month to date. This surge in popularity signals growing consumer confidence in the Chinese brand’s stylish, tech-loaded, and competitively priced offerings.
“This achievement goes beyond just numbers,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager of Omoda & Jaecoo South Africa. “It’s a sign that local motorists are embracing something fresh and dynamic. We are immensely proud of our team and dealer network for making this happen.”

Top Performers
Leading the charge in June was the Omoda C5, which alone accounted for 478 units — approximately 43.49% of the brand’s total sales. When combined with the C5 X Series (a facelifted variant that moved 215 units), the total rises to 693 units, representing 63.05% of O&J’s June sales.
Meanwhile, Jaecoo’s popular J7 SUV recorded 150 sales. As Jaecoo’s flagship offering, the J7 continues to gain traction thanks to its solid performance and value-for-money proposition.
The newly launched C9 SHS and J7 SHS hybrid variants also made a strong debut, selling 36 and 80 units, respectively.

Omoda and Jaecoo aren’t slowing down — both brands are gearing up to introduce new models by the third quarter of 2025.
- Omoda C7: This new SHS (Super Hybrid System) model will slot between the C5 and C9. It will feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor to deliver a combined 255kW and 525Nm. With an 18.3kWh battery, the C7 can travel up to 90km on electric power alone.
- Jaecoo J5: A smaller sibling to the J7, the upcoming J5 SUV will share the same 1.5-litre turbocharged engine found in the C5 (producing 115kW and 230Nm) and will offer similar styling in a more compact and affordable package.

Both models are expected to come with premium features such as a digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen infotainment system, and panoramic sunroof — all while remaining competitively priced for their segments.
