Today’s Weather Update: November 13, 2024

South Africa is experiencing a day of cool to warm temperatures, with a chance of isolated showers and thundershowers in several regions. The SA Weather Service has issued minor warnings, including a yellow level 2 warning for heavy rain and localized flooding in some areas of Limpopo. Let’s dive into the detailed weather forecast across different provinces for today.

Regional Weather Warnings

The SA Weather Service has issued weather warnings for parts of South Africa on November 13, 2024. These include:

  • Limpopo: A yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall that may result in localized flooding, particularly in the extreme northeastern parts. Roads, bridges, and low-lying settlements could be affected by heavy downpours. Additionally, a yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued in central parts of Limpopo, where strong winds and hail may damage property and infrastructure.
  • Western Cape: A yellow level 1 warning has been issued for damaging winds, which could affect small vessels and personal watercraft, leading to capsizing risks in areas between Alexander Bay and Cape Point. Localized disruptions to small harbors and beachfront activities are also possible.
  • Northern Cape & Western Cape: There is an expected extreme fire danger in certain areas, including parts of the Dawid Kruiper, Kai Igarib, and Kamiesberg Municipalities in the Northern Cape and Matzikama Municipality in the Western Cape.

Detailed Weather Forecast by Region

Here’s a look at what weather South Africans can expect across various provinces:

1. Gauteng:
Morning fog is expected in some areas, with partly cloudy skies throughout the day. Temperatures will be warm, with a chance of isolated showers and thundershowers later in the day. The UVB sunburn index is forecast to be high.

2. Mpumalanga:
The highveld will see morning fog, while the rest of the province will remain partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers. The Lowveld will be warm, with scattered showers expected along the escarpment.

3. Limpopo:
Morning fog in the central and western parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected, with the heaviest rainfall in the eastern areas.

4. North West Province:
Morning fog is expected in certain areas, followed by partly cloudy and warm conditions with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. The extreme north-western parts will remain dry.

5. Free State:
Expect morning fog, followed by partly cloudy conditions. It will be warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts of the province.

6. Northern Cape:
Fine and warm to hot conditions will prevail, with some cloud cover expected in the eastern parts. Winds along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to southeasterly.

7. Western Cape:
The western half of the province will be fine and warm to hot, while the southern coast will experience light rain in the morning, becoming partly cloudy later. Winds will be moderate to fresh, with strong to gale-force winds expected along the west coast from the afternoon. The UVB sunburn index will be very high.

8. Eastern Cape (Western Half):
Warm conditions in the north, with cloudy and cool weather in the south, and isolated showers. Winds will be moderate to fresh, becoming southerly by midday.

9. Eastern Cape (Eastern Half):
Expect cloudy and cool conditions with isolated showers and rain south of the escarpment, and scattered showers along the Wild Coast. Thundershowers are possible along the escarpment. Winds will be light to moderate from the south-west, becoming southerly by evening.

10. KwaZulu-Natal:
Morning fog in some areas, followed by partly cloudy and warm conditions. Cloud cover will increase in the afternoon, bringing isolated showers and thundershowers, especially in the south. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh, with strong winds expected in the afternoon. The UVB sunburn index will be high.

What to Expect Tomorrow

While today brings mild conditions across much of the country, tomorrow will bring more widespread rain and possible storms, particularly in the northeastern regions. If you’re planning to be outdoors, be sure to check the weather updates frequently for any changes that might affect travel or outdoor activities.

Today’s weather forecast across South Africa will be cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers in various areas. The heavy rainfall warnings in Limpopo and the Western Cape’s coastal regions highlight the potential for disruptions. As the week progresses, rain and storms are expected to intensify. Make sure to stay informed through official weather updates to ensure your safety, especially if you are in the affected regions.

Stay safe and plan accordingly!
