ITHUBA National Lottery Has Confirmed That The R104 Million Lotto Jackpot Winner Has Claimed Her Prize

In an exciting turn of events, ITHUBA, the official operator of South Africa’s National Lottery, has confirmed that a lucky winner has claimed her R104 million Lotto jackpot prize. This life-changing win occurred on 30 October 2024, in Lotto draw number 2486, marking the second-highest jackpot in Lotto history.

Jackpot Details and Winning Numbers

The winning numbers for the historic draw were 4, 9, 25, 39, 41, and 44, with a bonus ball of 3. The winner, who had been a regular Lotto participant, opted to use the Quick Pick feature on her banking app with a wager of R160. She was notified by her bank about her prize, following standard procedure for winnings above R249,000. Upon notification, the winner visited the nearest ITHUBA regional office to complete the necessary validation and claim process.

A Life-Altering Sum and ITHUBA’s Supportive Services

The winner, now among South Africa’s multi-millionaires, expressed her gratitude and excitement during the claiming process. Reflecting on the impact of this prize, ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza emphasized that such an amount is “almost impossible to quantify” in terms of its potential effect on an ordinary person’s life. Mabuza noted that ITHUBA’s added services, including trauma and financial counseling, are crucial for winners of significant jackpots (over R50,000) to help manage the transition into newfound wealth.

Following her win, the jackpot winner shared her plans, stating that her first splurge would be a brand-new wardrobe. She also shared the touching moment when she informed her daughter, describing how she burst into tears upon learning of her windfall.

Second-Biggest Lotto Jackpot Win

This jackpot marks the second-largest win in South African Lotto history, surpassing a R100 million prize claimed by a Pretoria resident earlier this year. The largest jackpot ever recorded was in 2018, where four winners split an impressive R110 million.

Important Guidelines for Lotto Participants

All lottery winnings in South Africa are tax-free, with validated winnings paid out within 72 hours of claiming. ITHUBA advises all players to keep their tickets safe and, for added security, encourages physical ticket holders to write their name and ID number on the back.

For those who prefer using banking platforms to play, winnings below R249,000 are automatically transferred to their account. Higher amounts require the winner to visit an ITHUBA office for secure validation.

Lottery Draw Schedules and Tips for Participants

Lottery games run daily in South Africa, with various options including Lotto, Lotto Plus, and PowerBall, alongside the regular Daily Lotto. Draws occur throughout the week, and participants must be 18 years or older to play responsibly. Here’s the current draw schedule:

  • Monday: Daily Lotto
  • Tuesday: Daily Lotto, PowerBall, and PowerBall Plus
  • Wednesday: Daily Lotto, Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, and Lotto Plus 2
  • Thursday: Daily Lotto
  • Friday: Daily Lotto, PowerBall, and PowerBall Plus
  • Saturday: Daily Lotto, Lotto, Lotto Plus 1, and Lotto Plus 2
  • Sunday: Daily Lotto

Ticket sales for each game close at 20:30 on draw days, so players should plan accordingly. To ensure accurate results, players can always check the official National Lottery website, which provides final verification for all winning numbers.

The next Lotto draw is set for Wednesday, 6 November, with an estimated jackpot of R7 million. Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 jackpots will also be up for grabs, estimated at R17 million and R6 million, respectively.
