Soweto Residents Launch Manhunt for Killer of Five-Year-Old Girl, Amantle Samane
The peaceful community of Orlando East in Soweto is reeling from the horrific murder of five-year-old Amantle Samane. The young girl’s half-naked body was discovered in an empty shack, just two streets away from her home, on Monday. The gruesome discovery has ignited fury and grief among residents, who have taken it upon themselves to search for the perpetrator.
Amantle was last seen playing outside her home on Monday while her mother briefly stepped out to the shops. When her mother returned, Amantle was nowhere to be found. A frantic search ensued, with neighbors joining the family in their desperate quest to find the little girl.
Tragically, their search led them to an empty shack, where they found Amantle’s lifeless body. The scene was devastating, with the young girl’s body bearing the marks of a violent assault.
The suspect, who is known to the community and believed to be from Mozambique, is currently on the run. He had been renting the shack where Amantle’s body was found for the past five months. Residents describe him as a quiet and friendly man who often kept to himself.
Outraged by the heinous crime, community members have launched their own manhunt for the suspect. They are going door-to-door, determined to bring him to justice.
“We are angry at the brutality of this crime,” says Mangaliso Xaba, a community activist. “The police should have launched a manhunt within 15 minutes of the report. Instead, the community had to act on its own.”
The South African Police Service has confirmed that they are investigating the case and are actively searching for the suspect. Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo stated that the suspect allegedly lured Amantle into his shack, where he raped and killed her.
The murder of Amantle has sent shockwaves through the community of Orlando East. Residents are struggling to come to terms with the senseless loss of such a young life.
“We tried to wake her, but it was too late,” says Matlhogonolo Samane, a relative of Amantle. “The police and ambulance came and she was declared dead on the scene.”
The community is demanding swift justice for Amantle. They are calling on the police to intensify their efforts to apprehend the suspect and ensure that he faces the full weight of the law.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of children and the urgent need for greater protection and safety measures within communities.
