Today’s Weather: Mostly Sunny Skies Across SA, with Isolated Showers in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released the national forecast for Thursday, 10 April 2025, and the overall outlook is encouraging for much of the country. While there are no severe weather warnings, isolated showers and thundershowers are expected to make landfall in parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
If you’re based in Gauteng, North West, Free State, or the Western Cape, you’re in for partly cloudy to clear skies and generally pleasant temperatures. However, residents in the Lowveld regions and coastal belts should brace for intermittent rain and overcast patches.

Gauteng:
- Partly cloudy and cool, warming up in the north.
- UVB Sunburn Index: High – wear sunscreen and limit direct sun exposure during midday.
Mpumalanga:
- Partly cloudy and cool to warm.
- Isolated showers and thundershowers in the Lowveld and escarpment.
Limpopo:
- Morning fog in the west.
- Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers, except in the Western Bushveld.
KwaZulu-Natal:
- Foggy start over the interior.
- Partly cloudy and cool to warm with coastal showers and adjacent interior rain.
- UVB Sunburn Index: Very High – sun protection is essential.
Eastern Cape:
- Western Half: Partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers south of the escarpment.
- Eastern Half: Morning fog, then cloudy with scattered to widespread showers, particularly in the north where temperatures will remain cool.
Free State:
- Morning fog along the Lesotho border and eastern areas.
- Otherwise, partly cloudy and cool to warm.
North West:
- Fog patches in the east early on.
- Fine conditions expected thereafter, with cool to warm temperatures.
Western Cape:
- Morning fog along the coast and nearby interior.
- Generally partly cloudy and cool, with fine conditions in the extreme southwest.
- UVB Sunburn Index: High – take sun safety precautions.
Northern Cape:
- Morning fog in the southeast.
- Partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions expected.

☀️ Sunburn Risk Remains High
UV radiation levels are elevated today in many parts of the country, including Gauteng, Western Cape, and especially KwaZulu-Natal, where the UVB index has been rated as very high. SAWS advises all residents to:
- Wear hats and protective clothing
- Apply SPF30+ sunscreen regularly
- Stay hydrated and seek shade during peak sun hours
☔ Summary: A Mixed Bag Weather Day
While most of South Africa will bask under mild skies, regions in the northeast and east should remain alert for light rain and localized showers. It’s a good day to plan those outdoor activities in Gauteng and the Western Cape, but best to keep an umbrella handy in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KZN, and parts of the Eastern Cape.
