SASSA SRD Grant Payment Dates
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official payment schedule for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for March 2025. This comes alongside the good news that the grant, currently valued at R370 per month, has been extended for another year.

March 2025 SASSA SRD Grant Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed that SRD grant payments will be processed from 20 March, with funds reflecting in beneficiaries’ bank accounts on:
- 26 March 2025
- 27 March 2025
- 28 March 2025
- 29 March 2025
It is important to note that while payments will be processed earlier, it may take two to three working days for funds to reflect in bank accounts.
How to Check Your SASSA SRD Payment Status
Beneficiaries can verify their exact payment date using the SASSA SRD website. Here’s how:
- Visit the official SRD website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
- Enter your ID number and registered phone number
- Click ‘Check Status’ to see when your grant payment will be made
Alternatively, beneficiaries can call SASSA’s toll-free helpline at 0800 60 10 11 for assistance.
Who Can Apply for the SASSA SRD Grant?
New applications for the April 2025 SRD grant are now open. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
✅ Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or special permit holder
✅ Be between 18 and 59 years old
✅ Be unemployed and earn below R624 per month
✅ Not be receiving other government financial support, including:
- Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits
- National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursaries
- Any other permanent SASSA social grants
How to Apply for the SASSA SRD Grant Online
Eligible individuals can apply for the R370 SRD grant using the following steps:
- Visit the SASSA SRD website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za
- Click on “Click Here to Apply Online”
- Enter your mobile number and click ‘Send SMS’
- Enter the OTP (One-Time Pin) sent to your phone
- Follow the prompts to complete the application

New Biometric Verification for SRD Grant
To combat fraud, SASSA has introduced a biometric verification system for new SRD applicants. Biometric authentication is now mandatory before a new application is approved.
Existing beneficiaries do not need to complete biometric verification unless they experience issues with their payments.

SASSA SRD Grant Extension and Future Basic Income Grant
The SRD grant has been extended until 31 March 2026, with R35.2 billion allocated by the National Treasury.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana also stated in his 2025 Budget Speech that the SRD grant may serve as a foundation for a future Basic Income Grant (BIG). The government is still reviewing how the grant will evolve beyond 2026, with further details expected by September 2025.
