Graduate internships are now open for applications! The Department of Employment and Labour has launched an exciting opportunity for unemployed South African graduates. As part of its commitment to youth employment, the department is inviting eligible candidates to apply for its 24-month Graduate Internship Programme, which aims to recruit 10,000 graduate interns annually across all nine provinces.
Graduate Internships: A Pathway to Employment
The Graduate Internship Programme is designed to equip young South Africans with essential workplace skills, providing them with invaluable experience to enhance their employability. According to the ministry, a total of 20,000 Inspector and Enforcement interns will be recruited over the next two years, with 10,000 positions available for the 2025 intake.
The Department of Public Services and Administration (DPSA) has officially advertised these positions in Vacancy Circular 5 of 2025, urging all interested and qualified individuals to apply before the deadline.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for these graduate internships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Have never participated in an internship programme before.
Application Process for Graduate Internships
Candidates must submit their applications using the new Z83 application form, which is available at any public service department. Additionally, applicants must attach a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Important Notes for Applicants:
- Applications using the outdated Z83 form will not be considered.
- Each position applied for must have its own separate completed, initialled, and signed Z83 form.
- Incomplete or unsigned applications will lead to automatic disqualification.
Selection Process and Shortlisting
Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If applicants do not receive feedback within eight weeks after the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
Shortlisted candidates will need to provide certified copies of their qualifications and other supporting documents on or before the interview date.
Screening and Verification
Successful candidates will be subjected to a personnel suitability check, which includes:
- Criminal record verification
- Citizenship verification
- Credit record check
- Qualification verification
- Employment history check
Additionally, applicants must declare any pending criminal, disciplinary, or other investigations. If any undisclosed issues are discovered, the application will be disregarded, and any appointment made will be terminated.

Applications for the Graduate Internship Programme are open and will close on 21 February 2025. Interested candidates should follow the application instructions carefully to ensure compliance with the requirements.
