Currently regarded as the runaway log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns have various sources for goals and we look at who are the club’s top scorers. Coached by an astute Rulani Mokwena, Sundowns are campaigning in three competitions, the DStv Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and the lucrative CAF Champions League.
As they face the possibility of winning a treble this season, Masandawana’s goals don’t only come from the usual or traditional strikers, but from midfielders and defenders.

Top Scorers: Who Are Mamelodi Sundowns Highest Goal Scorers
The Tshwane giants have 46 points, and 33 goals on the summit of the log table, they are yet to lose in 18 matches while they hold the longest unbeaten run of 42 matches. Fresh from a Tshwane Derby stalemate against neighbours, SuperSport United, Sundowns now focus on the Nedbank Cup as they will face Maritzburg United.
The likes of Gaston Sirino, Grant Kekana, and Lucas Ribeiro are among the top scorers for the Chloorkop-based giants who are enjoying a rich vein of form.
Top Scorers: Lucas Ribeiro
The Brazilian attacker is in his debut season at Chloorkop and he is showing signs that he is the top scorer of note. Ribeiro has hit the ground running for Sundowns as he has an impressive 10 goals for the club. He is the current DStv Premiership top scorer for the reigning league champions and will look to keep the momentum until the end of the campaign.
His mission is none other than claiming the Golden Boot accolade just after arriving at the club ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Santa Helena-born 25-year-old star, Ribeiro also boasts a gold medal with Sundowns as he helped to win the African Football League title.
Top Scorers: Gaston Sirino
The Uruguayan has the bragging rights as the first player to score a hat trick in this year’s Nedbank Cup tournament. Sirino netted three times against La Masia former Orlando Pirates winger coaches, Daine Klate in the opening round of Last 32.

The dribbling wizard is yet to score in the league but he is one to watch for Sundowns and is tipped to claim the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament as they look to dethrone the reigning champions, Pirates. Among other players in the top scorer’s charts in the competition, Matias Esquivel, Lebogang Maboe, and Terrence Mashego also appear for Sundowns.
Top Scorers: Grant Kekane
The rock-solid defender who usually partners with Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa, and Abdelmounaim Boutouil in the heart of the defence has a knack for goals. It is unusual to see a defender among the top scorers in any competition but Kekana has three strikes next to his name.

The Tshwane-born Bafana Bafana defender is key for Sundowns and will look to add to his tally after the FIFA International break.
Top Scorers: Peter Shalulile
The man nicknamed Shasha is seriously struggling this season as he only has four goals on the top scorer’s charts. By his standards, this is a worrying factor for the Sundowns fans and the player himself. At the same time, coach Mokwena also expressed concerns about his trusted marksman.
Judging his displays in the previous season, Shalulile claimed the Top Goal Scorer Award and shared it with Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo with 12 strikes. However, having four goals with less than 10 games to the end of the season is not a true reflection of the Namibian star’s qualities.

Looking at the continental, showpiece, Shalulile has two goals and the recent one came against TP Mazembe in the group stages. As they are through to the knockout stages, Mokwena hopes the former Highlands Park star will find his mojo and start banging them in.
